Dissapponting loss in Krefeld
The Eisbären Berlin lost their first game in 2015 against the Krefeld Pinguine 1-4. Berlin outshot the home team 29 to 21 but scored only once. “I don´t think that we played too bad at the beginning” Petr Pohl resumed. “They got up 2-nothing during the first. And going 2-1 into the third on the road you still have a lot of time to equalize it. We had to push it hard but weren´t able to make it unfortunately”.
Krefeld´s Mike Mieszkowski took Colin Long´s set up from the back boards at the central slot area and fired it into the net at 05:34 of the first. Later on Daniel Pietta made it a two goal game leaving 34 seconds on the board. The Pinguine capitalized on Berlin´s tiny lack of concentration moment playing tic-tac in their zone. Pietta stood at the low slot area and had any problems to push it over the goal line (19:26).
Antti Miettinen scored Berlin´s lone goal during a man advantage situation at 16:32 of the second. With István Sofron serving a minor penalty for high sticking the guest´s assumed their position quickly. T. J. Mulock´s cross into the slot got deflected and Miettinen used his chance to cut the lead in half with a quick snapper from short distance (16:32).
The guest´s not only played catch-up hockey during the third, they really dominated the home team. Unfortunately netminder Tomas Duba blocked every of their shooting attempts. It was István Sofron who augmented the lead instead. He overwhelmed goalie Mathias Niederberger with a no-look snapper from the central slot area over his glove into the right angle (12:53). Adam Courchaine´s empty netter finished off the 4-1 victory (19:40). “We battled hard tonight” Krefeld´s Mike Mieszkowski stated. “We capitalized on our chances. Having a 3-1 lead you have a lot of self-confidence and don´t led it take it away from you”.
