Relentless Eisbären celebrated Christmas for sixth straight
The Eisbären Berlin jump up in the conference after winning sixth straight. They send the Kölner Haie back home winning 6-1. “It was an important game for us” man of the match Marcel Noebels commented. “We expected a low scoring game actually. We played for each other showing a lot of character”.
The 22-year old German left winger waited for the puck at the center slot patiently. Petr Pohl set it up for him with a pass from behind the goal. Noebels opened the scoring with a quick release into the left angle at the beginning of the first (03:58). Later on the home team´s power play unit made it a two goal game. With Cologne´s Moritz Müller serving a minor penalty for tripping Antti Miettinen deflected Frank Hördler´s snap shot from the right crease besides goalie Danny aus den Birken (12:03).
Berlin continued to score some goals during the second. With 31 seconds into the period Matt Foy converted his break away tremendously by pushing it between Aus den Birken´s pads at the bottom of the slot area. With a three goal deficit the guest´s became much frustrated and started trying to find their way back into the game. Moritz Müller had a big missunderstanding on the ice with Jimmy Sharrow (03:24) and Maxime Sauvé with Henry Haase (08:13). But Cologne´s loss of discipline didn´t help either. In between Barry Tallackson augmented the lead to four goals pushing it over the goal line on a man advantage situation (04:57). Midway through the period Marcel Noebels battled hard to get the pucks possession in the offensive end. He took his chance and scored his second of the night finalizing a beautiful stick handling deke move to the left side (10:57). Guest´s Head Coach Niklas Sundblad reacted and made a goalie change. Netminder Danny aus den Birken was pulled after giving up five goals on 15 shots.
But for the guest´s it came even worse. At the beginning of the third Florian Busch intercepted a build-up pass and forwarded it to Noebels. Petr Pohl redirected his slap shot from the right point standing at the bottom slot area into the left angle (00:58). With 6 unanswered goals on the board John Tripp made little cosmetics to the scoring and scored the guest´s lone goal at 05:21 deflecting Andreas Holmqvist´s pass from the right boards. “It was a tough game for us” goalie Sebastian Stefaniszin voiced his frustration who came on in relief of Danny aus den Birken. “The second period was very frustrating. We tried to make some cosmetics to the scoring at the end”.
